Established in 2000, WA Bluemetal operates out of the group’s Byford granite quarry. Originally acquired in 1990 and later renamed, the quarry was developed to supply granite for the company’s growing number of seawall and road construction projects. Today, WA Bluemetal produces approximately 1 million tonnes of granite annually, supplying high-quality materials for applications including concrete production, aggregate supply, drainage, pipe covering, and breakwater construction. As the major only hard-rock quarry owned by a private company in the Perth metropolitan area, WA Bluemetal is a vital asset, with an estimated lifespan exceeding 100 years, ensuring its continued contribution to Western Australia’s construction and infrastructure needs for generations to come.

Building Perth's Landmarks Through Premium Granite Supply

WA Bluemetal has been integral to Perth’s infrastructure development, supplying granite for major projects such as the Matagarup Bridge, Elizabeth Quay, Perth-Mandurah Rail Line, and Kwinana & Mitchell Freeway upgrades. The Byford quarry’s granite has also been essential for marine works, breakwater construction, and other large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring durability and functionality in challenging environments.

WA Bluemetal Projects

Bunbury Waterfront Redevelopment

In November 2024, WA Limestone, in collaboration with Italia Stone Group, was awarded a $70 million contract for the construction of a breakwater as part of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project.

Ocean Reef Marina

WA Limestone constructed 2.5 kilometres of breakwaters and revetments that extended up to 8 metres above sea level

Optus Stadium Precinct

WA Limestone was involved in the development of the Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge precinct, providing both civil works and material supply for the broader area.

Onslow Iron Project

This project comprises the construction of a 150 kilometre private haulage road for Minerals Resources’ Onslow Iron Project.

WA Limestone successfully completed the Broome Town Beach Groyne Upgrade in April 2020, transforming the aging structure as part of a broader development of the Town Beach precinct.

Augusta Boat Harbour

WA Limestone supplied and installed 500,000 tonnes of rock to create the 800 metres of breakwaters that extended up to 7 metres above sea level.

HMAS Stirling / Garden Island

WA Limestone delivered the Maritime Structures Causeway Remediation for the HMAS Stirling Stage 3A redevelopment on Garden Island, Western Australia, completed between August 2017 and August 2018.

WA Limestone contributed to the Elizabeth Quay development by supplying limestone and granite products used in the construction of key architectural and landscaping features.

Port Geographe Reconfiguration

WA Limestone installed 450,000 tonnes of rock for the 1.2 kilometres of breakwaters and revetments that extended up to 6 metres above sea level.

WA Limestone undertook a comprehensive redevelopment of the Esperance Port over a two-year period in 2000, delivering substantial infrastructure enhancements for the Esperance Port Authority.

Darwin Rock Supply

For the Darwin Rock Supply project in 2000, WA Limestone provided 120,000 tonnes of granite armour rock to Thiess Contractors on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.

Boskalis Rock Supply

WA Limestone contributed 300,000 tonnes of granite core and armour rock in 2008 for Boskalis as part of Chevron’s Barrow Island Project.

Hillary’s Boat Harbour

WA Limestone, in a joint venture with Italia Stone Group, constructed a 2 kilometre seawall, which included the supply, transport and installation of 800,000 tonnes of limestone core and armour.

WA Limestone constructed 2.5 kilometres of breakwaters and revetments that extended up to 8 metres above sea level.

Dongara (Port Denison) Boat Harbour

WA Limestone was responsible for the construction of 2 separate 400 metre seawalls, which included the supply, transport and installation of approximately 300,000 tonnes of limestone core and granite armour.

WA Limestone worked as the seawall and excavation specialists on the Dawesville Cut. The project included drill, blast, transport and installation of 500,000 tonnes of limestone core and armour.

Fremantle Sailing Club

WA Limestone constructed a 1 kilometre seawall at the historic club, which included the supply, transport and installation of 500,000 tonnes of limestone core and armour.
