Public Notice
In accordance with Section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, public comment is invited on an action proposed to be undertaken on Mining Lease 70/1240 at Lot 901 South Western Highway, Whitby in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale approximately 40 km southeast of Perth.
Ransberg Pty Ltd are proposing to undertake clearing associated with the Byford (Whitby) Quarry operations. The proposed works will necessitate the clearing of 13.2 ha of vegetation within a boundary of the same size. The clearing will take place within Mining Tenement M70/1240 Karrakup (the site) for storage purposes.
The proposed clearing will facilitate construction of the following elements:
- Storage and laydown areas;
- Access tracks/roads; and
- Associated quarry infrastructure.
The proposed action has been determined to be a controlled action under the EPBC Act and will be assessed through Preliminary Documentation. The controlling provision under Part 3 of the EPBC Act are listed threatened species and communities (sections 18 and 18A). The EPBC-listed species and communities (protected matters) that are impacted by the proposed action includes the following:
- Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo (Zanda latirostris formerly Calyptorhynchus latirostris) (Endangered);
- Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii naso) (Vulnerable);
- Baudin’s Black Cockatoo (Zanda baudinii formerly Calyptorhynchus baudinii) (Endangered);
- Chuditch, Western Quoll (Dasyurus geoffroii) (Vulnerable).
In accordance with Section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, Preliminary Documentation related to the proposed action is available for viewing and comment for a minimum of 10 business days from the date of advertisement.
