Case Study
WA Limestone delivered the Maritime Structures Causeway Remediation for the HMAS Stirling Stage 3A redevelopment on Garden Island, Western Australia, completed between August 2017 and August 2018.

HMAS Stirling / Garden Island Development

The project involved importing and placing over 100,000 tonnes of rock along a 4km-long causeway. Despite logistical challenges like restricted access, limited work areas, and severe weather conditions, the project was completed on time, expanding its scope by 40% to address unforeseen structural repairs.

WA Limestone adopted innovative construction techniques, including side-on construction methods, to ensure traffic flow and minimise environmental impacts within the fragile Cockburn Sound ecosystem. The company prioritised safety, achieving zero injuries during the project and contributing to a larger milestone of 1,000,000 hours without a lost-time injury.

Praised for their construction quality, the project was handed over without defects, receiving commendation from the Department of Defence and establishing a safety culture adopted by subsequent contractors
